Hi! I’m Maia, a young Abstract Painter, Writer and Graphic Designer from Romania, Europe, and this here is my story.
As most artists, I started drawing and writing stories ever since I could hold a pencil and not shove it into an electrical socket. However, as I grew older, life took me to other places – serious places, dull monotonous places. It had me sit quietly through Law School, then swerved abruptly towards Computer Programming where I eventually settled, but my love for art was never extinguished. Quite the contrary, pushed down into the background by my prosaic life choices, it bubbled constantly underneath the surface – angry, frustrated, unquenched, it refused to let me go.
I’m obsessive, impatient and a firm believer in the impossible. I also like to curse a lot in several languages.
On my winding journey, I touched many realms, always drawn towards the creative and the profoundly aesthetic. I briefly attempted graffiti on city walls; I worked with charcoal and made numerous portraits of loved ones; I dipped a toe in photography and photo retouching and sank full-body into digital painting; I did web design; I wrote poetry and prose in a desperate need to shoehorn my fantasies into the real world. Finally, I also returned to the brush: to dirty hands and paint-splattered jeans, to the basics of birthing colors by combining shades, to spreading my dreams on canvas, in cursive, fluid strokes.
Although I remain a Programmer by day, I resolved to be an Artist by night. I see no other way. I now try to gather all that I know, all that I’ve learned, all that I’ve experienced and bundle it up nicely in what is, simply put, a continuous pursuit of beauty. It’s not easy, it took me long, but I am home.
You’re welcome to join me here in my happy place; nothing would make me more excited.
